UNITY SK RCMP REPORTS for December 13 to 19, 2016

RCMP assisted emergency medical services staff with a patient.

Police received a complaint of trespassing. Members issued a verbal warning to the subject of complaint. The complainant declined to lay charges.

Members assisted an individual who needed fuel.

There was a complaint of neglected animals.  Members referred the complaint to animal protection services.

RCMP received a noise complaint. Members attended and warned the subject of complaint.

Members acted as mediators in a family disagreement.

There were also two false alarms and one traffic complaint.

Property Crime Reduction Tips, from Unity/Wilkie/Macklin RCMP

With the Christmas season fast approaching, many shoppers will be out filling their vehicles with their gifts and groceries. Thieves will also be out looking to take advantage of those shoppers leaving gift items unattended in their vehicles. Over the holiday season incidents involving thefts from vehicles and vehicle thefts increase.

Traditionally, while responding to these crimes it has been noted that in some cases extra measures could have been taken in order to help prevent these crimes from occurring in the first place.

The RCMP asks for your help in protecting yourself and preventing these crimes by using the following tips to deter those would be thieves:

  • Making sure to lock your vehicle doors and close windows tightly.
  • Parking your vehicle in a well-lit area if possible to deter thieves.
  • Taking valuables and other important items out of your vehicle or putting them out of sight so thieves are not attracted to the contents.
  • Locking up items in the trunk of your car or putting them out of sight when they must be left in your vehicle, so that they are not visible from outside of your vehicle.
  • Never leave the keys in your vehicle when it is unattended.
  • Consider installing alarm systems in your vehicles to alert you of any theft or attempts.
  • Taking firearms and ammunition out of unattended vehicles. This could prevent criminals from having easy access to weapons. Keep in mind that you could also be criminally charged for not properly securing your firearm.
  • Taking extra caution at home by closing curtains and blinds when not at home so thieves cannot see valuables inside.
  • Locking the doors of your home whenever you are out and no one is at home.

By taking these preventative measures it will be harder for thieves to steal from you and will give them less incentive to target our communities.

RCMP received a complaint of stolen fuel. There are no suspects at this time.

Police received a report of a concerning FaceBook post. The post had been removed by the time it was reported to members.

An 18-year-old Unity male was charged with assault after members received a report of assault.

Members issued a 72-hour driving suspension during a traffic stop after the vehicle driver blew a warning during a breath test.

RCMP received a complaint of an individual ringing a residence doorbell and running away. There are no suspects at this time.

There was also one driving complaint.

RCMP responded to a call of an individual in medical distress. Members assisted Emergency Medical Services in gaining access to the residence so they could transport the patient to the hospital for assessment.

Police received a complaint of an individual on Saskatchewan Highway 14. Members attended and transported the subject of complaint to North Battleford Hospital for assessment.

A 30-year-old male from Neilburg SK was charged with unauthorized possession of a firearm and possession of a firearm in motor vehicle when police noted the firearms in the vehicle while it was parked near a local business.

Members contacted SaskPower after receiving a report of a downed power line.

Members euthanized an injured deer after receiving a compliant of an animal on Highway 21 south of Unity.

Police received a report of a single vehicle rollover.  There were no injuries.

There was a single vehicle collision with a deer. There were no injuries.

RCMP received a complaint of suspicious vehicles in a field. Members located the subjects of complaint and discovered they were farmers spraying the field.

Members conducted a well-being check at the request of a family member.

CN Police reported a train with an oil leak. Reported for information purposes.

RCMP received a report of break-and-enters into two shops at two rural residences near Senlac, Saskatchewan. These matters are still under investigation.

Police received a complaint of disturbing the peace. This matter is still under investigation.

RCMP received a report of a vehicle collision with a deer. Reported for insurance purposes.

Members acted as mediators in a property dispute between two individuals.

A 37-year-old male from Salvador SK was charged with assault after members received a complaint of assault.

Police received a complaint of a break-and-enter at a business in Unity. This matter is still under investigation.

Members received a report of a break-and-enter into a shop at a rural residence near Unity. This matter is still under investigation.

RCMP received a complaint of public mischief but it was unfounded.

There was a report of a stolen quad but it was unfounded.

Members received a report of an open door at a business that was closed. A key holder attended to lock the door.

Police received a report of a fire at North West Terminal in Unity. The fire was extinguished by Unity fire department. No police action necessary.

A 55-year-old female from Regina was charged with three counts of assault after RCMP received a complaint of assault.

RCMP received a report of a smashed vehicle windshield. This matter is still under investigation.

Police received two complaints of trespassing. Both matters are still under investigation.

Members spoke to an individual regarding a neighbour dispute.

A 23-year-old male from Red Deer, Alta., was charged with mischief after RCMP received a complaint of individuals fighting at a drinking establishment and causing damage to property.

There was a complaint of damage to a vehicle. This matter is still under investigation.

RCMP received a report of a single vehicle collision with a deer. There were no injuries.

Police received a report of a single vehicle rollover near Unity. There were no injuries.

RCMP received a request from an individual to assist with traffic control while he was moving cattle to a pasture.

Members acted as mediators in a disagreement between two individuals.

Police received a complaint of assault but the complainant declined to lay charges.

Members initiated a conditions check on an individual at the request of Kerrobert RCMP.

A 32-year-old female and a 40-year-old male, both from Red Deer, Alta., were charged with possession of cannabis marijuana during a traffic stop. The female was also charged with two counts of failing to comply with conditions of an undertaking and issued two traffic tickets.

CN Police reported two railway crossing malfunctions near Scott SK this week. No police action required for either occurrence.

RCMP received a report of a vehicle collision with a deer. Reported for insurance purposes.

Police received a report of an abandoned vehicle on Highway 21. Members contacted the registered owner who agreed to have it towed.

A cellphone was turned in to Unity RCMP.

Members received a Mental Health Act complaint. The subject of complaint was located and transported to Unity Health Centre for assessment.

There was a bale on fire in the ditch on Highway 21. Unity Fire Department attended to extinguish the flames.

A 38-year-old male from Tramping Lake, Saskatchewan, was arrested and charged with mischief after police received a complaint of a broken vehicle window.

RCMP received a complaint of slashed vehicle tires. This matter is still under investigation.

Police received a complaint of theft. This matter is still under investigation.

A 27-year-old Unity male was charged with eight counts of failing to comply with undertaking, three counts of failing to comply with condition of undertaking and resisting peace officer after police located him away from his residence after curfew.

Members received a request to serve a subpoena to an individual in the area but the individual no longer resides near Unity.

RCMP received a complaint of a suspicious vehicle. Members patrolled but the vehicle was gone on arrival.

Police received a complaint of an individual throwing property around a residence. Members attended and warned the subject of complaint. No further issues were reported.

Members received a report of a knife that was located in a garbage can at Unity Health Centre. Members attended and disposed of the knife.

There was also one false alarm and one false 911 call.

RCMP attended a collision between a semi and a tractor on Highway 31 near Denzil, Sask. There were no injuries. The semi driver was issued a traffic ticket.

Police received a report of a one car train derailment near Senlac, SK. Reported for information purposes.

A land owner requested information about the Trespass Act.

There was a complaint of an intoxicated male lying near the Unity Fire Hall. The individual was transported to Unity hospital by emergency medical services.

RCMP received a report of a cabin fire at Suffern Lake. There were no injuries and the fire was not suspicious in nature.
