RCMP Reports for May 5 to 11

UNITY SK RCMP REPORTS for May 5 to 11, 2015

RCMP received a complaint of a break and enter and vandalism at a residence on Jubilee Bay in Unity, Saskatchewan. This matter is still under investigation.

A 20-year-old Saskatoon male was charged with possession of cannabis marijuana when the drug was located in a vehicle during a traffic stop.

A member acted as a mediator between two individuals in a land disagreement.

There was a fire by the Unity dog park. The fire was extinguished by Unity firefighters.

Police received a report of a grass fire northeast of Senlac, SK. Members attended as buildings and livestock were threatened by the fire but it was extinguished by Unity fire department before anything could be damaged.

RCMP attended a collision between a vac truck and a train near Unity. The vehicle driver sustained minor injuries. This matter is still under investigation; alcohol is considered a factor in the accident.

There was a report of cattle on Highway 14 near Senlac. The cattle owners removed the animals from the roadway.

Police received a report of an unwanted person at a residence. Members transported the individual to another residence. No charges were laid.

Members spoke with youth about drugs at the request of a parent.

UNITY SK RCMP REPORTS for April 28 to May 4, 2015

NOTE: There have been a number of break and enters reported. RCMP asks that the public contact them when they see suspicious activities occurring in their community.

CN Police reported damage to a railway crossing arm. No police action necessary.

RCMP issued a 60-day roadside suspension when the vehicle driver blew a warning while providing a breath sample.

Members attended a residence after receiving a noise complaint. Consequently, no other complaints were received.

Members attended the Unity Composite High School career fair to provide information to students who are interested in pursuing a career in the RCMP.

Canada Road Safety Week

May 12-18, 2015 will mark Canada Road Safety Week, a national campaign aimed at making Canada’s roads the safest in the world. Motorists are reminded to drive safe and be alert this long weekend as they begin their summer travels.

The Unity/Wilkie/Macklin RCMP detachment will be actively supporting this traffic safety initiative. Expect to see police officers out and about conducting traffic stops pursuant to The Saskatchewan Traffic Safety Act this week.

Sgt. Grant Rusk also wants “to remind the motoring public that the speed limit when passing — both oncoming and overtaking stopped on roadside — emergency vehicles with their lights activated is 60 kilometres an hour. Tickets for violations of this speed limit start at $210 plus a $60 victim surcharge.

The tagline for Canada Road Safety week is “Drive safe. The life you save may be your own!” Drivers are encouraged to be sober and alert, ensure occupants are buckled up and children properly secured, remain focused on their driving and not be distracted when behind the wheel and to obey posted speed limits.

B&E, theft at residence on Jubilee Bay

Unity SK RCMP are requesting the public’s assistance in locating the person(s) responsible for a break enter and theft from a Unity residence on Jubilee Bay that occurred between the morning of Monday, May 4, and the evening of Tuesday, May 5, 2015

Suspects broke into a home while the homeowner was away. The suspects caused extensive damage to the residence and the homeowners’ personal property. A large flat screen TV, some jewelry and other valuables were taken.

RCMP Reports April 14 to 20

UNITY SK RCMP REPORTS, April 14 to 20, 2015

RCMP received a report of a missing person. The 85-year-old Wilkie man was later located by police following a driving complaint near Cut Knife, Saskatchewan. The man was taken to hospital for assessment. The male will also be facing charges of driving while disqualified.

Police received a complaint of an individual driving a quad down a back alley and splashing mud all over a residence fence. This matter is still under investigation.

There was a report of theft of tools from an oil lease southwest of Denzil, SK. Two fluid guns worth $30,000, along with their manuals, were stolen from a locked trailer. The thefts occurred between April 4 and April 15. This matter is still under investigation.

CN Police reported a railway crossing arm malfunction in Unity.

RCMP received a complaint of theft of a vehicle from Denzil. This matter is still under investigation.

Police received two reports of individuals receiving phone calls from their own phone numbers. Members spoke to the complainants about telemarketers who utilize computer programs to use local numbers to call people in order to have residents answer their telephones. Information was sent to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre. Callers are reminded to call *57 to trace any incoming calls they receive that they believe to be criminal in nature. *57 must be used before the next incoming call is received.

Police received a complaint that a caller was contacted by a person claiming to be affiliated with the Canada Revenue Agency that claiming that the resident would be arrested if he/she did not provide financial information to them immediately over the phone. Information was sent to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre. Callers are reminded to call *57 to trace any incoming calls they receive that they believe to be criminal in nature. *57 must be used before the next incoming call is received.

RCMP received two separate complaints of fraud. Both matters are still under investigation.

There was a traffic collision between two semis in a parking lot. There were no injuries and no charges were laid.

Police received a request to locate an individual. The individual was located.

RCMP received a complaint of the theft of fuel from a gas station. This matter is still under investigation.

Members assisted emergency medical services staff with an intoxicated individual.

Police assisted Unity fire department with a grass fire at Adanac, near Unity, Saskatchewan.

RCMP Reports for March 31 to April 6

UNITY SK RCMP REPORTS for March 31 to April 6, 2015

RCMP received a report of cattle on Highway 31 by Denzil, Saskatchewan. Members attended but the cattle were gone on arrival.

There was a noise complaint but police were unable to attend due to a priority call.

Police received a complaint of break and enter into storage sheds at the Unity Golf Course. This matter is still under investigation.

CN Police reported a railway crossing arm malfunction.

Members conducted a bar walk at Senlac Bar and located a 32-year-old Evesham male on the premises. The male was charged with failing to comply with condition of undertaking as police were aware he was on conditions not to consume alcohol or to be at a place where alcohol is sold.

A lost wallet was turned in to RCMP. The wallet was returned to the owner.

RCMP initiated a traffic stop and discovered that the two vehicle occupants were on conditions to have no contact with each other. A 28-year-old Kindersley male was charged with failing to comply with an undertaking and a 28-year-old Biggar female was charged with failing to comply with condition of undertaking and with obstructing a peace officer by providing a false name.

There was also one traffic complaint and one false 911 call.

UNITY SK RCMP REPORTS for March 24 to 30, 2015

RCMP received a report from CN Police of a railway gate knocked off. CN sent a technician to fix the gate.

There was a complaint of a vehicle driving through a rural residence late in the evening.

Police initiated a traffic stop and located a small amount of cannabis marihuana as well as drug paraphernalia. Three youth were arrested. No charges have been laid at this time.

RCMP attended the sudden death of a 22-year-old Unity male. The death was not suspicious in nature.

CN Police reported that an individual stacked rail ties on the train tracks near Scott, Saskatchewan. A train had run over the ties. There was no damage to the train or the track. Members patrolled but could not locate the subject of complaint.

Police received a complaint of a vehicle parked at the side of the highway near Denzil SK and the vehicle driver walking while carrying a rifle. Neighbourhood checks revealed that several individuals heard shots fired in the area. Members patrolled for the vehicle but could not locate the suspect.

RCMP Reports for March 17 to 23, 2015

In addition to the usual reports below, two members of the Unity RCMP who are also members of the North-Central District Containment Team assisted  North Battleford RCMP in a standoff with an armed and intoxicated male, Sunday evening, March 22. The intoxicated male eventually gave up his firearm and turned himself over to the police who had secured the perimeter where the male was located.

As reported by the Battlefords RCMP, “At approximately 4 p.m., the Battlefords RCMP Detachment received a complaint of an intoxicated male threatening to harm himself with a firearm at an address in the 600 block of 102nd Street, North Battleford, Saskatchewan. The male was extremely agitated and threatened to take another occupant of the residence hostage and to harm police and ambulance personnel if they attended. RCMP officers from the Battlefords Detachment, Battlefords Provincial GIS assisted by the “F” Division Containment Team and Police Dog Services formed a secure perimeter around the residence to ensure the safety of all residents in the neighbourhood. RCMP negotiated with the male for the next five hours and the incident drew to a successful close just before 9 p.m. as the male surrendered to the officers on scene without incident.”

A 39-year-old North Battleford male has been charged with a number of firearms and other offences as a result of the incident.

UNITY SK RCMP REPORTS for March 17 to 23, 2015

RCMP received a report of a vehicle collision with an electrical outlet in a parking lot. No charges were laid as vehicle driver agreed to pay for all damages.

Member assisted an individual who had run out of fuel.

Police transported an individual to North Battleford Union Hospital for a mental health assessment.

Unity RCMP assisted Saskatoon Police Services by obtaining a statement.

There was a break and enter at a residence. This matter is still under investigation.

RCMP received a report of an individual receiving a parking ticket in the mail. The parking ticket was issued to a vehicle that had been stolen four days earlier. This matter is still under investigation.

Police received a complaint of fraud. This matter is still under investigation.

UNITY SK RCMP REPORTS for March 3 to 16, 2015

March 3 to March 9, 2015

RCMP received a report of a single vehicle rollover on the Reward Grid. There were no injuries and no charges were laid.

A member assisted Saskatchewan Ministry of Social Services with a concern.

Police issued a 72-hour roadside suspension to an individual when he blew a warning after a member requested a breath sample.

A member assisted Vernon RCMP Detachment by obtaining a statement.

RCMP are investigating the theft of a green and black 2011 Artic Cat Mud Pro 1000 Quad and a black 2001 Trailtech Trailer. The quad and trailer were stolen on March 8 from a rural residence near Scott, Saskatchewan.

There were also three false alarms.

March 10 to March 16

RCMP received a complaint of a disagreement between a landlord and tenant. Member informed complainant that this is a civil matter.

There was a report of a vehicle backed into a power pole in a parking lot in Unity SK. No charges   

Police received a complaint of an individual driving a vehicle erratically on Highway 14 east of Unity. Members located the vehicle and charged the 40-year-old Wilkie female with impaired operation of motor vehicle, refusal to provide breath sample, and dangerous operation of motor vehicle. The female was later also charged with attempted escape of custody for attempting to flee from North Battleford RCMP cells where she was being lodged until sober.

Members attended the sudden death of a 76-year-old male in the Denzil area. The death was not suspicious in nature.

RCMP received a report that a CN train hit a vehicle that had been parked on the train tracks near Unity. The registered owner turned himself in at Cut Knife Detachment the next day. The 28-year-old male from Cut Knife was subsequently charged with impaired operation of motor vehicle, dangerous driving, failing to remain at the scene of an accident and mischief under $5,000.

There was a report of possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking. This matter is still under investigation.

There was also one traffic complaint, one false 911 call and two false alarms.
