News, info, photos, upcoming events, sales, job opportunities – all found in the Unity Wilkie Press-Herald paper coming out March 31, 2014. Monday’s paper includes stories on:

  • EMT shortages and the effect on nearby communities;
  • the Unity Miners as league champions – get the details of the final game and on the players and executive involved this year;
  • Unity Credit Union holding their AGM, reviewing 2013 and looking forward to 2014; and
  • the Senlac Cafe serving up gourmet meals.

Monday’s Unity-Wilkie Press-Herald has a little bit of everything – news, opinion, sports, arts, new ideas, personal interest stories, pretty pictures, upcoming events, job opportunities, special sales and important information!

  •  news items include local impacts of the grain transportation crisis and Delta Co-op’s annual general meeting and review of their 2013 year;
  • opinions on this week’s provincial budget;

Whether you were or you weren’t at Celebrate Unity, 2014, in Unity, SK, you will get to see photos of all the smiling honourees in the March 17th issue of the Unity Wilkie Press-Herald.

Along with those pictures (the story was in the March 10th issue), you will find:

  • information from a workshop on parenting in the digital age and an invitation to upcoming sessions;
  • a photo of some of our volunteer firefighters with their new fire rescue truck;
  • an extensive update on the hockey season for all area minor hockey teams; and
  • photos from the Unity Skating Club Carnival – At the Movies;

You’ll need your calendar beside you when you read next week’s paper as there are many events coming up next month and beyond! You can find the events listed by clicking on our calendar link above, and read the fine details in the actual paper.

Besides the event details you will find in the advertising,, the March 3 Unity Wilkie Press-Herald features:

  • a wrap up of the Affinity Credit Union Provincial Senior Men’s and Women’s Curling Championships, both in terms of results and impact on the community;
  • a prelude to the Unity Skating Club’s upcoming carnival, At the Movies;
  • a summary of results and where all three area senior men’s hockey teams are at in their respective league playoffs; and

Locals Gary Maze, Wayne Charteris and Daryl Eddingfield, playing with Unity skip Glen Heitt, almost made it to the championship game, falling short by only one point in the semifinal against Al Schick, Brian McCusker, Kerry Gudereit and Jim Loos of the Callie Curling Club of Regina. Horses seized – see Monday’s paper

Four horses from the pasture near Scott have now been seized by the Saskatchewan SPCA. Global, CTV and CBC are also now all covering this story of animal neglect.

Next week is a big week in Unity with 16 curling teams in town from all over the province, here to compete for the Senior Men’s and Women’s Saskatchewan Championship. Find out who is coming “to rock the house” in next week’s issue of the Press-Herald, along with:

  • details of new recycling fees in Unity;
  • comments and lessons from the panel presentation at UCHS on workplace bullying and harassment;
  • following the hockey career of Luseland’s Jessica Sibley;
  • recap of the Luseland/Dodsland Mallards first round playoff wins;

along with all the regular features such as the RCMP Report, a Faith Matters column, an Olympic-themed Top 10 and food for thought on our editorial page!

(After Wednesday’s high winds, people reported ice fishing shacks rolling across the lakes of the North West region, flagpoles down, grain bins blown away and other wind-related damage. This farm shelter belt didn’t suffer much damage but the photograph only shows a small portion of the  pine cones from the spruce trees scattered everywhere by the end of the day.)

The Singing Grandpas: Peter Sieben of Kerrobert, Ben Schneider of Tramping Lake and Gabe Kohlman of Major provided cheerful background music for the pleasure of Sunrise Wellness Spa visitors and shoppers during Winter Wonderland events in Unity Dec. 5.
