Fire Prevention Week

With Fire Prevention Week running October 9 to 15 in Canada this year, be sure to check out the October 7 Unity Wilkie Press-Herald for photos of all our volunteer firefighters. You will also find articles and tips on fire safety and prevention.

And did you dream of being a firefighter when you were a kid? It’s not too late! The Unity fire department is recruiting and is hosting a “try it out” session at the fire hall next Saturday, October 15, from 1 to 5 pm.

You are welcome to go and try using a hose as well as taking part in other trials that will be set up. You will also be able to see how the Jaws of Life work.

And then, everyone from 1 to 100 can help out our volunteer fire department with their fundraising efforts by buying a cheeseburger and pop for only $5 between 5 and 7 pm.

A Firefighter’s Prayer

When I am called to duty, God, Wherever flames may rage;

Give me strength to save some life, Whatever be its age.

 Help me embrace a little child Before it is too late;

Or save an older person from The horror of that fate.

Enable me to be alert And hear the weakest shout,

And quickly and efficiently, To put the fire out.

I want to fill my calling and To give the best in me;

To guard my every neighbour and Protect his property.

And if according to your Will I have to lose my life,

Please bless with Your protecting hand My children and my wife.
