RCMP received a complaint of fraud.  Information sent to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.

Police received a report of criminal harassment but it was unfounded.

RCMP Reports for January 19 to 25

UNITY SK RCMP  REPORTS for January 19 to 25, 2016

RCMP impounded a vehicle for 30 days during a traffic stop when it was discovered the vehicle driver was driving while disqualified.  A traffic ticket was also issued to the individual.

A member assisted an individual in locating a place to stay for the night.

Police received a complaint of fraud.  No personal information was given.  Information sent to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.

RCMP attended a mental health complaint.  Members transported the individual to Unity Hospital for assessment.  The individual was released to the care of family.

There were also two traffic complaints and one false alarm.

On the hockey side, the Miners played their last game of the season Friday night, losing to the Biggar Nationals and putting the Unity SK team out of the SWHL playoffs. LIam and Olivia most popular 2015 baby names

eHealth Saskatchewan released the top 20 baby names in 2015 earlier this week.  Liam was the most popular name for baby boys for the sixth year in a row and Olivia was the most popular name for baby girls.  The second most popular names were Noah and Emily.

There were 69 baby boys named Liam in 2015, followed by Noah, Benjamin, Lincoln and Lucas.  There were 80 baby girls named Olivia, followed by Emily, Emma, Ava and Avery.

Perhaps the royal family’s newest addition influenced some parents in Saskatchewan, as Charlotte was one of the top 20 girl names in 2015 for the first time.  Last May, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, William and Kate, introduced the world to their baby girl named Princess Charlotte.

In 2015, 15,497 live births were registered in Saskatchewan.  This number does not include Saskatchewan mothers who gave birth outside of the province.

While 2016 new babies are being celebrated already by many families, our hearts go out to the Surine and Romanowski families of Unity who lost the second of their twin girls earlier this week. Addison joins her sister Emma in heaven. The girls suffered from a rare disorder, spinal muscular atrophy, SMA. Donations for research into a cure for this horrible disease that afflicts babies may be made at curesma.ca,

RCMP received a child welfare complaint. This matter is still under investigation.

Police responded to a complaint of disturbing the peace. A verbal warning was given to the subject of complaint.

There was a report of harassing communications but the complainant declined to lay charges.

A Member assisted a stranded traveller who had run out of fuel on Highway 14.

RCMP Reports for December 22 to January 4

UNITY SK RCMP REPORTS for December 22, 2015, to January 4, 2016

RCMP received a report of three horses running loose on Highway 14 east of Unity, Saskatchewn. Members patrolled but could not locate the horses.

There was a request to assist Prince Albert Parole in monitoring release conditions of an individual in the detachment area.

Members received a request from Public Prosecutions to serve a subpoena to an individual in the detachment area. Members discovered the individual had moved to another community so they could not serve the subpoena.

Police received a complaint of theft. This matter is still under investigation.

CN Police reported a railway crossing malfunction near Scott, SK.

RCMP received a complaint of theft of hay bales but the complaint was unfounded.

Members received a report of a suspicious vehicle near the train track in Unity. Members located the vehicle and discovered the vehicle occupants were taking pictures of birds.

There was a single vehicle collision with a moose on a rural road near Unity. There were no injuries.

Police received a complaint of intoxicated individuals asking where they could purchase drugs in Tramping Lake, SK. Members located the subjects of complaint and warned them about their actions.  No charges were laid.

Members charged a 23-year-old male from North Battleford with consuming alcohol in a public place and also executed several warrants for his arrest that were issued out of Unity, Maidstone and Regina.

Reminder and request from Unity RCMP

The Unity/ Wilkie/ Macklin RCMP would like to again remind the public to remove their keys from their vehicles so the young offenders that have been coming into our community to steal vehicles are not successful and are less likely to return to try and steal other vehicles and commit more offences in our community.

Also, the Unity/Wilkie/Macklin RCMP are seeking assistance from the public in solving a theft from a building that occurred near Macklin, Saskatchewan. During the morning of December 23, 2015,, two sheds broken into. Among the stolen items, were some Gerry cans full of gasoline, and approximately $500 worth of scrap wire. The vehicle being used was described as a mid 1990s Ford F-150, extended cab, green in colour.
