UNITY SK RCMP REPORTS for May 30 to June 5
RCMP received a complaint of youth riding dirt bikes and an ATV on private land. Members located the youth and issued a verbal warning.
CN Police reported two railway crossing malfunctions in Unity this week.
Members received a request from an individual to participate in the Police Observer Program.
Police completed a well-being check on an individual at the request of a family friend.
A 62-year-old male from Lucky Lake, Saskatchewan, has been charged with breaking, entering and committing after police received a complaint of a break-and-enter into a rural residence near Unity. See below for more details on this incident.
RCMP received a complaint regarding child welfare. This matter is still under investigation.
There were also three false alarms, one traffic complaint and one false 911 call.

Details on 62-year-old charged with breaking, entering and committing
A woman living in a rural area near Unity was awakened by a stranger, an older white male, entering her bedroom at about 6:30 a.m. June 3. He asked her to get him a coffee, and left the room for her to dress. The woman was able to take a photograph of the male with her phone and, when he left her bedroom, she locked herself in the bathroom and called family and 911.
The male left the rural home in an older blue sedan, witnessed by the arriving relatives who met the male leaving the yard. The vehicle was observed heading north at a high rate of speed. The woman determined that money and alcohol had been stolen while the male was in her home.
She was able to provide RCMP with the photo of the suspect; they also had a description of the vehicle he had left in. RCMP circulated the picture amongst local detachments and members were able to determine a possible suspect from the Neilburg area.
At approximately 1 p.m., there was a report of a blue sedan driving erratically at high speeds on Highway 16 near Waseca, with a ladder hanging out of the trunk. Minutes later there was a second report of a similar vehicle, again with a ladder hanging out of the trunk. The vehicle was said to be travelling fast, east-bound on Highway 16.
Maidstone RCMP located the vehicle on the side of the road about 10 kilometres east of Maidstone. The lone male occupant of the vehicle matched the description of the male from the break-in reported in Unity, and some of the property believed stolen from the Unity area home was in the vehicle.
The male was identified as 62-year-old John Nathanial Porter of Lucky Lake, formerly of the Neilburg area. Porter was charged with impaired driving, exceeding .08, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, possession of property obtained by crime and possession of alcohol in a motor vehicle. He was held for court in Lloydminster June 5 and then released on an undertaking to appear in Provincial Court in Maidstone July 11.
Following the initial incident, the photograph of the suspect was posted by the Unity area woman on some social media sites, along with a brief description of the incident. The story spread widely online, continuing on even after Porter’s arrest by the Maidstone RCMP.
