Cardinals beat Brewers in provincial semifinal

After the top four teams each ended the round robin with a 2 and 1 win-loss record, the semifinals were determined: North East Red Sox versus the Lloydminster Twins and the Wilkie Brewers versus the Unity Cardinals.

It was the Red Sox and the Cardinals who advanced to ply in the provincial 2017 Senior AA Tier 3 Championship final at Unity SK August 13, 2017. The Cardinals beat the Brewers 12 – 3.

RCMP Reports for July 25 to 31

UNITY SK RCMP REPORTS for July 25 to 31, 2017

RCMP received a complaint of theft. Member issued a verbal warning to the subject of complaint. Complainant declined to lay charges.

A 61-year-old Unity male was charged with mischief and failing to comply with a probation order after police received a complaint of an individual harassing employees at a local business.

Police received a report of an abandoned vehicle. Members located the registered owner who moved the vehicle.

RCMP received a complaint of a hit-and-run causing damage to a vehicle. Reported for insurance purposes.

Members attended a minor traffic collision to act as mediators between the two vehicle drivers.

Police conducted a well-being check on an individual at the request of a family friend.

RCMP received a report of a semi-truck on fire near Scott, Sask. The fire was not suspicious in nature.

There was a complaint of theft of fuel from a local gas station. This matter is still under investigation.

Members received a report of a damaged street light. Reported for insurance purposes.

Police received a report of a suspicious vehicle. Members patrolled but could not locate the vehicle.

RCMP received another complaint of a hit-and-run causing damage to a vehicle. Reported for insurance purposes.

Members are investigating a complaint of an injured farm animal.

There were also two traffic complaints, two false alarms and one false 911 call.

A truck stolen from Unity July 24 was recovered by Blackfalds Alberta RCMP July 27. Matthew MacDonald, 31 years old, of Bashaw Alta., was charged with possession of stolen property and held in custody on this and other matters.

Members spoke with an individual with mental health concerns.

Police received a Mental Health Act complaint. Members at another detachment located the subject of complaint. No further issues.

CN Police reported a railway crossing malfunction near Scott, Saskatchewan.

RCMP received a report of a suspicious person. Members located the subject of complaint and requested she not loiter near businesses.

Police received a complaint of a suspicious vehicle parked in a business parking lot. Members located the vehicle and requested it be moved. A liquor ticket was also issued to the vehicle driver.

Members received a complaint of a damaged fence. Reported for information purposes.

CN Police reported a railway crossing malfunction in Unity.

RCMP received a complaint of assault but the complainant declined to lay charges.

Police received a Mental Health Act complaint. Members spoke with the subject of complaint.

Members received a complaint of an abandoned vehicle. Members contacted the registered owner who agreed to move the vehicle.

RCMP received a complaint of theft near Salvador, Sask. This matter is still under investigation.

There was a complaint of theft of fuel from a local gas station. Members contacted the subject of complaint who paid for the fuel. No charges were laid.

Police received a complaint of a stolen truck. This matter is still under investigation.

Members received a complaint of an abandoned vehicle in Salvador. The vehicle was not stolen and was legally parked.

There was a complaint of individuals yelling on the street late at night. Members patrolled but could not locate the subjects of complaint.

Members attended a fire at North West Terminal. It was not suspicious in nature.

RCMP received a report of a two-vehicle collision.  t was a minor collision that did not need to be reported to the police.

Members are investigating an incident of an individual breaching a supervision order.

RCMP received a report of a vehicle collision with a deer. There were no injuries. Reported for insurance purposes.

Police received a complaint of fraud. Reported for information purposes.

There was a complaint of a broken vehicle window. It was determined to be caused by the heat.

Members issued a 60-day roadside suspension during a traffic stop.

RCMP received a complaint of a missing person. The subject of complaint was located by Unity members and transported by Wainwright Ambulance to Wainwright Hospital for assessment.

Police received a complaint of uttering threats. This matter is still under investigation.

There was a complaint of a suspicious person looking in vehicle windows. Members patrolled but could not locate the subject of complaint.

RCMP received a complaint of taking motor vehicle without consent. The vehicle was later returned and the complainant declined to lay charges.

There were also two false alarms, one false 911 call and one traffic complaint.

Last paper before summer holiday break!

Tomorrow, July 28, there will be a Unity Wilkie Press-Herald newspaper waiting for you – at the office 310 Main Street, Unity, grocery stores, the C-store, etc. It’s the last issue before a two-week holiday break for staff, so the next weekly community newspaper for Unity and area isn’t scheduled to appear until August 18.

UNITY SK RCMP REPORTS for June 27 to July 3

RCMP received a complaint of theft. This matter is still under investigation.

An individual attended Unity detachment to turn in a wallet. Members located the owner.

CN Police reported a railway crossing malfunction.

Members attended a baler on fire near Unity, Saskatchewan. The fire was extinguished by Unity fire department and was not suspicious in nature.

Police received a report of an injured animal on Highway 14. Members could not locate the animal.

RCMP received a complaint of fraud. This matter is still under investigation.

Members received a complaint of extortion by libel. There are no suspects at this time.

Police received a complaint of disturbing the peace. Members issued a verbal warning to the subjects of complaint.

RCMP received another complaint of fraud. This matter is still under investigation.

Members received a report of a two-vehicle collision. There were no injuries. Reported for insurance purposes.

Police received a complaint of a vehicle driving through a railway crossing arm while it was activated. Members obtained statements. No charges were laid.

RCMP received a complaint of a hit-and-run causing damage to a vehicle. This matter is still under investigation.

There was a complaint of a break-and-enter at a residence but it was unfounded.

Members received a report of a suspicious person but the individual was a legitimate business owner soliciting work.

Police received a complaint of an individual being unlawfully in a dwelling house. Members spoke with the complainant and subject of complaint. No charges were laid.

RCMP received two reports of suspicious individuals in a rural area. Members located the individuals and laid charges in a theft complaint.

CP Police reported a railway crossing malfunction.

A 29-year-old male from Waskatenau, Alta., and a 50-year-old female from Vermilion, Alta., were charged with possession of property valued at over $5,000 obtained by crime and failure to comply with a condition of an undertaking after police received reports of suspicious individuals and theft.

Members received a complaint of harassing communications. There are no suspects at this time.

Police received an inquiry about when power would be restored to the Unity area during a power outage. Members contacted SaskPower who had already been informed of the outage and did not know when it would be restored.

There was also one traffic complaint and one false alarm.

A 24-year-old male from Prince Albert was charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle during a traffic stop.

There were also three traffic complaints, one false alarm and two false 911 calls.

Unity RCMP assisted Emergency Medical Services with a patient.

There were two reports of vehicles that collided with deer.  There were no injuries in either incident.

Police received a Mental Health Act complaint.  The subject of complaint was transported to Unity Health Centre for assessment.

Members received a complaint of an individual damaging a tree.  The complainant declined to lay charges.

Unity RCMP are investigating a report of a damaged residence fence.

Police attended a two vehicle collision on Highway 14 near the Scott turnoff.  The driver of one vehicle was transported to Wilkie Health Centre and then to Saskatoon Royal University Hospital by STARS Air Ambulance.  The driver of the other vehicle was not injured.  No charges were laid.

Members received a Mental Health Act complaint.  Members spoke to the subject of complaint who was fine.

RCMP are investigating a report of damage to a residence.

There was also one traffic complaint.
