Unity hosts provincial baseball

Unity Minor Ball hosted the Saskatchewan Bantam Tier 1 and the Mosquito Tier 3 Provincial Baseball Championships July 20, 21 and 22. (If you missed it, don’t worry, Unity is also hosting Midget Tier 1 provincials this weekend, with opening ceremonies at 4 pm July 27. Unity’s Midget Cardinals play at 6 pm July 27, and at noon and  6 pm Saturday July 28. Playoff games and gold medal game are scheduled for Sunday.)

Bantam AA Provincial Baseball Tier 1

The Bantam Cardinals provincial team hosted the AA Bantam Tier 1 provincial championship at Unity July 20 to 22.

The Unity Bantam Cardinals provincial team won a tiebreaker Sunday morning and advanced to the semifinals, but then lost to the PA Royals 5-4, ending their provincial quest.

Mosquito AA Tier 3 provincial championships

The Mosquito Cardinals provincial team hosted the AA Mosquito Tier 3 provincial championship at Unity July 20 to 22.

Unfortunately the Unity Mosquito Cardinals provincial team lost a tiebreaker Sunday morning so didn’t advance to the semifinals.

Cardinals advance to NSRBL semifinals

Battling through their first round playoff games against the North Battleford Beavers to win win two games out of three, the Unity Cardinals men’s team will now face the Border City Blue Jays in a North Saskatchewan River Baseball League semifinal.

Games are:

Monday, July 23 in Lloyd

Thursday, July 26 in Unity

Tuesday, July 31 in Lloyd.

Unity Western Days – bareback bronc riders

After a day and an inch or more of rain Friday, June 1, the sun came out for a “perfect weather” rodeo weekend at the 2018 Unity Western Days.

Midget AA Lazers out in Centre Four semifinal

Despite a valiant effort, the Unity Midget AA Lazers lost their Centre Four Hockey League semifinal series against the Warman Wildcats, three games to two. Congratulations on a good season, boys, and we wish you all the best next year wherever you may be.

Midget AA Lazers advance in playoffs

It took five games but the Unity Midget AA Lazers beat the Humboldt Broncos in the fifth and final game 4-0, with Kyle Turk getting the shutout, to move ahead in Centre Four Hockey League playoff action.

The Lazers now play Warman in the semifinal, with the series starting in Warman March 3. Home games for the Lazers are scheduled for Tuesday, March 6 at 7:30 pm and Saturday, March 10 at 5 pm.

Gold medals for Unity youth at SWG

Unity youth were key members of the Rivers West District alpine skiing team, winning two gold and one silver medal. Harley Harris of Landis also added to the Rivers West medal count with two silver. All events took place at Table Mountain.

Alexis Elder, on course above, and with her fellow medallists below, won the gold medal in the U14 girls’ division slalom.

Ashton Brebner won gold in the U16 boys’ slamon and silver in the ski cross. The next two photos are Ashton in/for the slalom event.

Alexis Elder also competed in ski cross and finished just out of the medals, in fourth place. Here she is, in slalom.
