Next week’s paper

The February 22nd issue of the Unity Wilkie Press-Herald is full of local news! Be sure to check it out for:

  • information from presentations at UCHS about mental health and anxiety, for both students and parents;
  • a preview of what’s to come at this year’s Celebrate Unity event, to be held March 7, tickets available now at Unity Credit Union;

Coverage of soil studies in the Antarctic in the Unity Wilkie Press-Herald?! Yes, your local community newspaper does range that far afield when one of the scientists involved is a UCHS alumnus! Check out the story in the February 15th paper, along with:

  • details on last weekend’s power outage;
  • reaction to blood donor clinics being pulled out of Unity, SK;
  • 4-H public speaking results; and
  • the latest RCMP, hockey and cancer diary reports.

Tomorrow’s paper

You don’t want to miss tomorrow’s Unity Wilkie Press-Herald – it has far too many pictures of cute babies in it! Yes, the February 8th issue is the annual baby issue. In the paper, you will also find:

  • exciting news about Unity being the Canadian pilot project site for an Australian-invented water treatment system;
  • just in time for Valentine’s Day, financial planning tips for new couples (and Found Treasures in Unity is advertising 30% off engagement rings!);
  • lots of career opportunity ads; and
  • a cancer diary update from Helena.

And yes, hockey reports, a story on Unity dancers and information about a COP (Citizens on Parol)  program starting in Unity too.

On the hockey side, the Miners played their last game of the season Friday night, losing to the Biggar Nationals and putting the Unity SK team out of the SWHL playoffs. 2016 has well begun when we’re looking at the last Unity Wilkie Press-Herald for January already! Check it out for:

  • a story on a province-wide competition being organized by the UCHS Positive School Climate Committee;
  • an update from Helena in a new Cancer Diary excerpt;
  • scoring stats for the Unity Midget AA Lazers; and
  • Federated Co-op’s results for 2015.

Of course, there’s also the RCMP and SWHL reports, along with ads from local businesses – Delta Co-op is having a window sale and Wildeman Sports Excellence is featuring a hockey equipment sale for the month of January. Innovation and Luseland Credit Unions are looking for nominations for their board of directors.

The Miners would love to have a good crowd out to cheer them on tonight as they take on the Wilkie Outlaws in the teams’ last game of the regular senior men’s hockey season – 8 pm, Unity arena, today, January 23.   • winners of Wilkie’s Ring in the New Year lottery and Unity’s Grand in Your Hand promotion;

Disfigured and a survivor of a roadside blast  in Iraq on his fourth tour of duty, Bobby Henline today is a standup comedian and motivational speaker who travels across North America speaking to audiences to create awareness about burn survivors and to inspire people to live life to the fullest. He was at Unity Composite High School November 6 – read all about it in the November 16th issue of the Unity Wilkie Press-Herald.

Also in next week’s paper:
