Lazer AA Midgets in the lead in playoffs round 1

Ending the season in seventh place in their division, the Unity Midget AA Lazers are pushing hard to knock off the Warman Wildcats in the first round of playoffs in the Saskatchewan AA Hockey League. They won the first two games 6-4 and 1-0 but lost 4-1 in Warman February 21. They have a chance to win the five-game series at home Saturday, Feb. 23 – game time 8 pm.

Games reports each week in the Unity Wilkie Press-Herald and here are some shots of play during the second playoff game, held in Unity, Saskatchewan, February 19, which the Lazers won 1-0.

Annual baby issue on newsstands tomorrow

Another special issue of the Unity Wilkie Press-Herald is on its way! The February 9th issue features many cute babies. You don’t want to miss it, find out who has a new little one and/or who are the new or repeat grandparents in town!

Along with the babies, you will find:

The November 24th issue of the Unity Wilkie Press-Herald is a big one – 24 pages of local and locally relevant news! Check it out for:

Remembrance Day issue

You don’t want to miss  Friday’s local paper, the November 10th Unity Wilkie Press-Herald, as with the support of local businesses and others, veterans are honoured and remembered. Although the focus of the paper is Remembrance Day, you will also find:

  • reminders of the fun in town on Halloween;
  • a report on junior boys volleyball;
  • an article on winter weather; and
  • of course, your weekly local RCMP and hockey reports.

Remembrance Day services start in town tomorrow, Thursday, November 9. Check out our calendar page for a complete list to help determine which one fits into your schedule.

Last paper before summer holiday break!

Tomorrow, July 28, there will be a Unity Wilkie Press-Herald newspaper waiting for you – at the office 310 Main Street, Unity, grocery stores, the C-store, etc. It’s the last issue before a two-week holiday break for staff, so the next weekly community newspaper for Unity and area isn’t scheduled to appear until August 18.

Be sure to check out the paper for:

  • yet another Unity team that brought home a provincial title;
  • a new Canadian citizen talks about her experience;
  • a story on Greg Schwaga who walked through Unity and Wilkie on his trek across the province, raising awareness and funds for Huntington’s disease; and
  • a full page feature on local athletes and volunteers at the Saskatchewan Special Olympics Summer Games.

Read all about Unity’s 2017 Citizen of the Year – Si Campbell – in the June 9th issue of the Unity Wilkie Press-Herald! In the local newspaper, you will also find:

  • interviews with parents and others about the elimination of the town school bus, starting with the 2017-18 school year;
  • who won the Western Days rodeo queen raffle draws (Congratulations to Stephanie Hauta, 2017 Western Days Rodeo Queen!);

You can’t put a Facebook post on the refrigerator! Check out the May 12 issue of the Unity Wilkie Press-Herald for fridge magnet worthy photos of:

  • Unity Minor Ball Day;
